Self-host n8n or use n8n Cloud: how to choose without adding operational burden
Compare n8n Cloud and self-hosting across total cost, security, data control, scalability, and operational capability to choose the right deployment model.

If your business needs to launch workflows quickly, has no platform operations owner, and has no mandatory data-location requirement, n8n Cloud is usually the better default. If workflows must reach private systems, data must stay on infrastructure you control, or the runtime needs deep customization, self-hosting is worth considering when you have genuine DevOps capability.
Do not decide by comparing server rental with a subscription alone. Ask which model has the lower total cost of ownership after upgrades, backups, monitoring, incident response, security, and engineering time are included.
Core decision
Do you want to buy a service or own a system you must operate?
Both options run n8n, but they assign platform responsibilities to different parties.
