Business Website Chatbot vs ChatGPT: What Changes for Customer Service?
Compare an employee AI tool with a customer-facing website chatbot through access, content control, operations and the next step after an answer.

ChatGPT is an environment where users interact with AI. A website chatbot is an application serving customers on a business channel, with its own content scope and intake process. Both may use similar model technology, but differ in customer access, business controls and operating responsibility.
Using ChatGPT to help staff draft replies may be useful. It does not automatically create a website widget, a managed knowledge base or a lead intake process. Choose according to where the work happens rather than comparing a single answer.

Employee tool versus customer touchpoint
An employee using ChatGPT can supply context, review the output and decide what to use. When customers ask a website chatbot directly, the business must configure sources, response boundaries and escalation beforehand. Staff are not reviewing every response before it reaches the customer.
OpenAI’s documentation states that GPTs work inside ChatGPT and are not a way to embed ChatGPT in an external website; external applications can be built using the API. This is a deployment distinction, not proof that one approach is always better.
